insurance Claim Specialists

We understand that many Colorado homeowners are concerned about insurance rates and deductibles, wildfire risk scoring, and the possibility of being non-renewed. That concern is valid.  Now, more than ever, the importance of hiring a fully qualified, trusted, roofing professional deeply experienced and specialized in insurance claims protocols and procedures, storm damage identification, and familiarity of your local area, building codes, and recent storm reports with an equally adept installation crew has never been of such upmost importance.

Colorado homeowners are facing a difficult insurance environment, and we understand why filing a claim can feel risky. That is why our inspection process is designed to give you information before you make a decision.

We inspect first, document carefully, and explain what we find honestly. If your roof is in good condition, we will say so. If a repair makes more sense than a claim, we will explain that. If there is legitimate storm damage, we will provide clear documentation so you can speak with your insurance agent and make the decision that is best for your home.

Our goal is not to pressure you. Our goal is to help you protect your home, your coverage, and your peace of mind

INSURANCE CLAIM STEPS

Step 1 - Storm Hits

It's crucial to get a jump on inspecting your property right after a storm to remediate any damages. Be on the look out for fallen leaves covering ground, major granule loss at the gutter downspouts , dents in cars, bbq grills, patio canopies, chipped paint/wood on decks/siding, missing shingles, etc.

Step 3 - Our Inspection

Our insurance adjuster–trained inspector will perform industry-standard storm damage assessments to determine whether the damage may warrant filing an insurance claim or if a targeted repair is the better option.

Step 4 - File Claim

We help homeowners contact their insurance carrier’s claims department to begin the claims process. Our team can assist with providing the basic storm damage information requested during the claim setup and help coordinate the carrier’s inspection appointment.

Step 5 - Adjuster Inspection

We meet with the insurance carrier’s assigned field adjuster to review the storm-related damage and help ensure all affected areas, necessary labor, materials, and applicable code-required items are properly documented and included in the claim scope.

Step 6 - Scope of Claim Approved

We review the insurance carrier’s scope of loss to help verify that all storm-related damages, required materials, labor items, and applicable code-required components are properly listed. If additional items are discovered, we assist with the supplemental process by providing documentation, photos, and supporting information for review by the carrier.

Step 7 - Perform The Prescribed Repairs

Once the scope of work is approved, Upslope Contracting completes the prescribed repairs and restoration work according to the insurance scope, applicable building codes, manufacturer specifications, and industry standards.

Step 8 - Schedule Final Inspections

We coordinate all final inspections and closeout requirements with the insurance carrier, building department, mortgage company, and homeowner to help ensure the project is properly completed, documented, and finalized.

Step 9 - Invoice Insurance Carrier

We provide the final invoice, certificate of completion, photos, and any required closeout documentation to help the homeowner request release of remaining insurance funds, including recoverable depreciation and approved supplemental items.

Step 10 - Final Payment, Closing Documents, and Close Claim

After the approved repairs are complete, we provide final invoicing, completion documentation, photos, and closeout paperwork to help the homeowner request release of remaining claim funds and properly close out the project.

WE ARE WITH YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY!

Questions Homeowners Should Ask Their Insurance Agent Before Filing

Before filing a claim, ask your insurance agent:

  1. Will a weather-related claim affect my renewal or premium?
  2. Does my carrier treat hail/wind claims differently than water, fire, or liability claims?
  3. Am I already at risk for nonrenewal because of wildfire score, roof age, location, or property condition?
  4. Would replacing my roof with Class 4 impact-resistant materials help my premium or insurability?
  5. Are there discounts for Class A fire-rated assemblies, defensible space, or mitigation work?
  6. Can you confirm my deductible, roof coverage type, depreciation terms, and any cosmetic damage exclusions?
  7. If I do not file now and the roof leaks later, could that create a coverage issue?

Worried About Filing an Insurance Claim?

Many Colorado homeowners are concerned about rising insurance costs, wildfire-risk scoring, and the possibility of being non-renewed. We understand that concern.

  • That is why Upslope Contracting starts with an honest roof inspection before recommending any next step. An inspection does not mean you have to file a claim. It simply gives you a clear understanding of your roof’s condition.
  • If we do not find significant storm damage, we will tell you. If minor repairs or maintenance are the better option, we will explain that. If we do find legitimate hail or wind damage, we will provide photos, measurements, and construction-related documentation so you can make an informed decision with your insurance agent.
  • Upslope Contracting does not act as a public adjuster and does not determine insurance coverage. We assist with construction documentation, repair scope, code items, and roof system recommendations so homeowners can make educated decisions.
  • Colorado law also prohibits roofing contractors from acting as public insurance adjusters, while still allowing a contractor with a valid contract to discuss the scope of repairs with the insurer.

Key Points

 1. An inspection is not the same as filing a claim.

Having us inspect your roof does not automatically create an insurance claim. It simply gives you information. You should know what condition your roof is in before deciding whether to contact your carrier.

2. We will not tell you to file unless the damage supports it.

We do not recommend filing claims for normal wear, minor cosmetic concerns, or damage that does not appear significant enough to support a legitimate storm claim.

 3. We cannot promise what your carrier will do.

No contractor can honestly guarantee whether a claim will affect your premium, renewal, or underwriting. Those decisions belong to the insurance company. What we can do is provide accurate documentation of the roof condition and help you understand the construction side of the damage.

Colorado law requires insurers to provide specific notice before canceling or refusing to renew a homeowner policy, and if claims history is used for an adverse action, the insurer must disclose the specific claim information that resulted in that action.

4. Not repairing real damage can also create risk.

Avoiding a legitimate claim may feel safer in the short term, but leaving storm damage unrepaired can create bigger problems later, including leaks, interior damage, roof deterioration, future claim disputes, and inspection issues when selling or refinancing the home.

5. The best defense is documentation and mitigation.

We help homeowners document roof condition, storm damage, repairs, code upgrades, impact-resistant materials, fire-resistant assemblies, and completed work. That documentation may be useful for insurance underwriting, renewals, real estate transactions, and future claims.

Colorado’s wildfire-risk law requires insurers using wildfire risk models or scores to provide information about mitigation discounts, wildfire risk scores or classifications, and a process for appealing wildfire risk scores or classifications.
